COPPA Notice to Parents
Version 1.0 · Last updated September 19, 2026
Draft for legal review. This document has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer, and highlighted passages are still to be decided.
1. Our Commitment
R3adli is built for children aged 6 to 11 and is designed to comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Parents and guardians stay in control of their children's information at all times: children can't create accounts, and you review every book before your child can read it.
2. Information We Collect
We collect children's information from their parent or guardian, who must be 18 or older and hold the R3adli account. You enter:
- First name or nickname, to personalize the book;
- Age and reading level, to match the story to your child;
- Gender (optional);
- Story details: interests, character, genre and themes, and any personal context you type in for a story.
In kids' mode, your child can choose story options from fixed lists (interests, character, genre, themes) but can't type anything in. We also record your child's book ratings and reading sessions (which book, and for how long). We don't collect photos, voice recordings, location, or contact details from children.
3. Parental Consent
- Only a parent or guardian with a R3adli account can create a child profile.
- When you sign up, and whenever our terms change, you confirm that you are the child's parent or legal guardian and consent to the collection and use of their information as described here and in our Privacy Policy. Parents who sign up with Google give this consent before they can use the parent area.
- You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting your child's profile or contacting us.
- [To confirm: whether this consent method meets COPPA's “verifiable parental consent” standard, or whether an additional step (such as a card check) is required]
4. How We Use Children's Information
- To put your child's name into their stories;
- To match vocabulary and story length to their age and reading level;
- To shape stories around the interests and themes chosen;
- To show your child their library and remember what they've read.
We never use children's information for advertising or marketing, and we don't sell it. We share it only as needed to create books: AI services receive the story details and reading level, but not your child's name. Before a book is published to the Marketplace, we remove your child's name and other personal details.
5. Parents' Rights
- Review: see your child's profile, books and reading activity in the parent area at any time.
- Delete: delete a child profile yourself, or ask us to delete your child's information or your whole account. We delete accounts within 30 days.
- Withdraw consent: stop us from making new books with your child's information.
- Refuse further collection: you can decline to give more information; we won't require more than we need to make and show books.
6. Data Security
We protect children's information with encrypted connections, access controls, private storage for book images, and a PIN that locks the parent area while your child uses kids' mode. We keep children's information only while your account is open.
7. Contact Us
To review or delete your child's information, or with any question about children's privacy, email privacy@r3adli.com. [To confirm: operator legal name and postal address (required in a COPPA notice)]
